SCOTUS on Virginia voter purge

SCOTUS greenlit Virginia's plan to scrub 1600 alleged noncitizens from voter rolls to preserve election integrity -- the challenge came because of the National Voter Registration Act's Quiet Period Provision, which prohibits removing ineligible voters within 90 days of an election to prevent errors that could disenfranchise eligible voters.

Forbes: It was a bad call -- the move threatens to wrongly disenfranchise citizens, particularly minorities. It clearly violates federal guidelines against pre-election purges.

ABC News: But SCOTUS ultimately ruled that the 90-day provision didn't apply since the alleged non-citizens weren't citizens. The plaintiffs, and the 4th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, argued that some of the purged individuals were citizens. However, the majority of the court disagreed -- Liberal Justices Sonia Sotomayor, Elena Kagan and Ketanji Brown Jackson dissented.

Democracy Docket really doesn't like it -- Virginia hasn't provided proof that each purged voter was a non-citizen. Isn't this classic disenfranchisement?

NPR: But SCOTUS disagreed -- and so did Republican Virginia governor Glen Youngkin, who said SCOTUS's ruling was a “win for common sense”. Clearly non-citizens need to be purged to protect election integrity!

Yankee fan interference

Yahoo Sports: During Game 4 of the World Series two Yankees fans attempted to interfere with a play by Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts. One fan literally ripped the ball from Mookie Betts's glove -- it resulted in a fan interference call.

Sports Illustrated said it was actually so brazen -- that glove-ripping was one of the wildest fan interferences ever. Many online roasted the fans for not knowing the rules.

The Sun: The fans were escorted out immediately -- some online called for a life-time ban, maybe even from all MLB stadiums. That kind of behavior is just so trashy.

North Jersey: Mookie Betts was visibly annoyed by the whole spectacle -- but after the game, he said it wasn't that important. Time to move on and focus on the next game!
