🍞 White bread woes
this is Shades of the Day — bringing you different shades of opinion in news & culture so that you can see the big picture quickly. We believe that seeing multiple POVs is the best way to stay informed.
It’s Monday, November 25 — here’s what you’ll find in today’s edition:
DOGE’s Wall Street Journal op-ed
The health risks associated with white bread
4 quick hits of news from the last 24 hours
DOGE’s WSJ op-ed
Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy have been appointed by President-elect Trump to lead the DOGE, a commission aimed at reducing federal regulations and government bureaucracy. The two hope to tap a conservative Supreme Court to support their mission to slash federal regulations -- read their WSJ op-ed here.
But wait -- legal experts in the Hill say that plan may not pan out: Recent Supreme Court decision may not give Ramaswamy and Musk carte blanche to overhaul regulatory frameworks.
This WSJ letter says DOGE may not need to rely on SCOTUS, though: Musk and Ramaswamy can trim the bureaucratic fat with the help of federalism. Give the states more power to shape the federal government!
For what it's worth, Yahoo says Musk and Ramaswamy aren't stopping at SCOTUS -- they're also teaming up with the likes of Marjorie Taylor Greene.
White bread woes
Many say white bread can cause a range of health issues -- Isitbadforyou.com notes that is has a high glycemic index, which may lead to diabetes and heart problems.
But it gets worse with fairy bread (aka dyed white bread) -- NZ Herald says that when white bread combines with artificial colors, it might cause behavioral problems and more serious health issues.
News Medical adds another layer of concern -- White bread might increase your risk of rectal or colon cancer.
Daily Mail: Eh, it's not so bad -- it's really about the additives in some common brands, not the bread itself. You can find white bread without those additives!
