Trump campaign hacked
Politico said it had received emails detailing internal correspondence from the Trump campaign. The Trump campaign said it was hacked, and that Iran was responsible for the breach.
A report from Microsoft said there's been an uptick in Iranian cyber-influence campaigns. Iranian actors are pushing content in an attempt to shape the outcome of the 2024 election.
The NYT says details remain unclear: It's not obvious what exact information the Iranian hacker group gained access to.
Trump said that the hackers only managed to get “publicly available information”. He also said that Iran was launching the cyber campaigns because the U.S. government has been “weak and ineffective”.
Still, Politico says campaigns should stay aware: The Trump campaign hack echoes Russian attacks on Clinton in 2016 -- and it likely won't be the last attack of the 2024 cycle.
US wins the most medals
The U.S. topped the medal count at the 2024 Paris Olympics with 126 overall medals. The contest for the most golds ended in a 40-40 tie with China.
Barstool Sports: That was a close one! The U.S. Women's Basketball team secured the win. The U.S. technically won over China because it earned more silver medals, which serve as a tiebreaker.
But the NYT says the U.S. didn't win the Olympics in every metric: The U.S. didn't dominate in weapons-based sports, or sports that were scored based on judging.
Still, the U.S. smashed the overall medal count. CBS says it's topped the chart since 1996.
