Brazilian assassination plot

Le Monde: Brazilian police arrested four soldiers suspected of plotting to assassinate then President-elect Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in a coup attempt in 2022 -- the plot was codenamed “Green and Yellow Dagger”.

The Guardian reveals the plan also targeted Supreme Court members and the vice-president elect. Police uncovered the plot from phone information of Bolsonaro’s former secretary, Lt Col Mauro Cid.

According to CNN, one suspect was previously an advisor to Jair Bolsonaro, the right wing leader who lost the election to Lula -- the assassins planned to use poison.

The BBC notes that military insiders were a part of this illegal plan, showcasing a serious breach of security forces. These would-be assassins will likely face serious prison time or even the death penalty.

The “Rust” premiere

Yahoo says the mother of Halyna Hutchins, killed on the “Rust” set in 2021, is boycotting the film's premiere. She says the move is meant to protest Alec Baldwin's bid for profit in the wake of the tragedy -- he was involved in the project as both lead actor and co-producer.

More on the grievances from AP News: The protest echoes Hutchins' mom's call for Baldwin to apologize and acknowledge his role in her daughter's death. Baldwin has claimed that he did not pull the trigger when the revolver fired the fatal shot.

Star Tribune notes that the mother says Baldwin has not apologized for her daughter's death. Baldwin has escaped criminal charges for the incident, yet civil lawsuits loom.

For what it's worth, ABC News says the Camerimage festival -- hosting “Rust” -- denies claims of trying to unjustly profit from the tragedy. The festival says showing the work honors Hutchins' legacy.
