Vance & the future of the GOP
Forbes says JD Vance is deeply integrated into GOP politics: He backed Project 2025, a core element of the Heritage Foundation's conservative game plan. He also earned a 93% score from Heritage Action for America, much higher than the 61% average among Senate Republicans.
CBS sees Vance as a bridge between Trump-ism and mainstream conservatives: He gained populist clout through his book, “Hillbilly Elegy”. His political ideas are similar to Trump's in many ways.
ABC sees Vance as Trump’s intellectual heir: He's able to focus on policies issues and avoid empty culture war issues. His leadership could successfully steer GOP with pragmatic economic and foreign policy solutions.
But a Guardian Op argues that the GOP's shift to JD Vance is terrifying, too: He's a step further away from democratic norms. There's a reason major influencers backing anti-democracy movements support him.
