It’s Tuesday, July 2 — here’s what you’ll find in today’s newsletter:

  • The pros and cons of fireworks

  • 4 quick hits of news from the last 24 hours

Jill’s role in the Biden campaign

A Telegraph Op: First Lady Jill Biden has the fate of the world in her hands. She could be the only person who could convince Biden to step down.

National Review agreed: Jill Biden holds the key to Joe Biden's future. Her decision could shape the nation's path

But WaPo says that Jill's proven to be a fierce supporter of her husband: Her loyalty to Joe may do more harm than good.

Hot Air had a different take, though: Dems don’t want to replace Joe anyway!

Skip the fireworks?

An NYT Op says we should all skip fireworks this the Fourth of July: They terrify pets and wildlife and they pollute the planet.

@Sfmcguire79 on X scoffed at the idea, though: “I’m going to dedicate an extra hamburger and a second round of fireworks to the author”.

And this Redditor says it's time to stop whining about fireworks -- let people have one day!

But the Tri-City Herald Ed Board thinks the critics have a point: Leave fireworks to the pros. The fire risk is too high.

By the way, ever wonder why fireworks are a thing? Britannica explains that fireworks on July 4th are rooted in royal pageantry and an idea from John Adams
