SCOTUS’s homeless tent decision

In a 6-3 decision, SCOTUS ruled that cities can ticket the homeless for public camping without alternative shelters. It overturned a lower court ruling that deemed such actions as cruel and unusual punishment under the Eighth Amendment.

Read the Court's full opinion for yourself here. Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote for the majority.

A Mynorthwest Op endorses the ruling: Finally, cities can enforce ordinances and restore safety and order.

But a US News Op called the ruling cruel and counterproductive: Housing, not fines, ends homelessness effectively.

LA Times Op adds different criticism: SCOTUS' decision reflects a broader trend of conservative justices shaping law based on ideology.

Most livable cities

The EIC released its Global Livability Index for cities -- Vienna scored the top spot for the third year in a row, Copenhagen and Zurich scored highly as well.

The Economist: Vienna rocks. It's got great stability and infrastructure -- plus top-notch healthcare and education.

Worlds Best Cities says forget the report, London is the best city in the world. It has so much incredible culture.

Forbes points out that no U.S. city was in the top 20 -- Honolulu was #23, the highest U.S. city.
