😱 Sam Altman returns to OpenAI

Sam Altman's dramatic ouster and return as OpenAI CEO has people talking. Some cheer, but others question the future of AI ethics.

😱 The Information: In a dramatic twist, former OpenAI CEO Sam Altman — whom the Board of Directors ousted just a few days ago — returned to OpenAI. He agreed to come back in exchange for a board restructuring.

😱 The WSJ said the Altman fiasco proves that nonprofit boards can't be trusted to govern effectively. “Capitalism wins”.

😱 But The Atlantic was worried about tech money prevailing over ethical objections. Sure, Altman clearly won the showdown, but at what cost?

😱 On the other hand, the NYT thinks this may not be the final AI ethics vs. profits showdown. The board will remain a nonprofit, and people are watching closely now.

😱 Either way, Altman seems happy to be back. He posted on X about his love for the company and its mission.

🦃 Biden’s pop culture mix-up at the turkey pardon

Biden's 2023 turkey pardon had age jokes and a pop culture mix-up.

🦃 As part of a time-honored tradition, President Biden pardoned turkeys “Liberty” and “Bell”. WaPo said the event was pretty low-key.

🦃 You can watch the 2023 ceremony here.

🦃 Hot Air thought the affair was embarrassing: In a (failed) effort to relate to younger voters, Biden mistook Britney Spears for Taylor Swift! So cringey.

🦃 @jackpandol didn't appreciate Biden's gaffe, either: Mixing up Britney for Taylor is “an impeachable offense”!

🦃 The Guardian was a bit more sympathetic, though: Sure, Biden's jokes were dry, but the pardoning ceremony's always full of groan-worthy gags.
