In the news: Remembering Matthew Perry

Actor Matthew Perry died at age 54 of an unknown cause. Here are some takes about his legacy as an actor, addict, and advocate.

NYT: Actor Matthew Perry, famous for playing Chandler Bing on "Friends", died at 54. The cause is unknown, but he was found unresponsive in his hot tub.

⚫ The Guardian says Perry was an incredible actor who struggled heavily with addiction, and that's probably what killed him.

⚫ But another Guardian opinion thinks that shouldn't define him. He was so much more than an addict — let's remember him primarily for his great acting and advocacy.

⚫ WaPo says his thirst for fame led to his struggles. His death is tragic — hopefully people go back and look at his work. He made a lot of people happy.

🧹 Cultural trend: Procrastination cleaning

Have you ever put aside an important task to clean your space? That's called procrastination cleaning.

🧹 Procrastination cleaning has a bad rap, but Bustle says it's low-key genius. It's a helpful way to reset yourself before doing something hard.

🧹 Apartment Therapy calls it a "ritualized behavior", which relieves stress — think of it as the first step toward getting your original goal done.

🧹 But Vogue disagrees: It's harmful. We procrastinate when we fail to manage negative feelings about the task at hand, causing us to reach for easy gratification — which cleaning can provide. We have to break that cycle!

🧹 Blogger Lowen Puckey also thinks it's the wrong strategy. Just start on the task at hand — odds are, you'll realize it wasn't as scary as it seemed.
