Haniyeh assassinated

Hamas leader Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated in Tehran. The NYT says the move could raise tensions in the middle east and jeopardize Gaza peace talks.

The WSJ had a similar take: The assassination is a big loss for Iran. Though Israel hasn't publicly commented, his death could plunge the region into war.

An Al Jazeera Op slams Israel: Its assassination of Haniyeh derails peace talks. It's clear that the country has no interest in de-escalating conflict.

But RedState thinks it was a justified retaliation: Hamas took credit for the October 7 attack on Israel, after all.

Either way, Haaretz says Iran is not happy. Iran called the assassination a “cowardly act” and vowed revenge.
