๐ฅ Phones at the movies
Happy Tuesday! Itโs August 8 โ people are talking about the postpartum depression pill, the explosion of phone usage in movie theaters, and more.
As always, weโve summarized and organized the different shades of perspective, so you can see the big picture quickly.
๐ In the news: Postpartum depression pill
There's a new pill to treat PPD (depression that occurs after childbirth). Many are really excited about the impact, but there are serious side effects too.
๐ NYT: The FDA approved the first pill to treat postpartum depression (PPD). It starts working in just three days, and needs to be taken for only two weeks.
๐ Forbes says it's a game-changer. 500,000 American women suffer from PPD every year โ this pill will improve so many lives.
๐ CNN is excited, but also notes the side effects โ the most serious being suicidal ideations and fetal harm.
๐ Today.com says the pill will encourage new mothers to seek treatment for their symptoms, and will raise awareness about PPD in general โ huge benefits.
๐ฅ Cultural trend: Phones at the movies
People are using their phones in movie theaters a lot nowadays. Is this trend something we should tolerate, or loathe?
๐ฅ The WSJ says phone usage at movie theaters is getting out of hand, especially during the Barbie movie and Oppenheimer. People are filming the screen for TikToks, and it's really annoying.
๐ฅ Insider is also incensed. Why do you feel the need to scroll TikTok during the movie? Be mature and put away your phone.
๐ฅ But Mic.com says some phone usage is OK, especially texting or googling. Maybe we could have designated phone usage rows in the back of the theater?
๐ฅ And Makeuseof.com says it's alright to check your phone, but be discreet โ use your bag to shield it, and lower the brightness all the way down.
