Ohio’s restroom rule
Ohio takes a controversial step with Senate Bill 104, which ties restroom access in schools to birth certificates. Yahoo News says it’s sparking backlash as an “invasion of privacy”.
NBC News criticizes its impact on transgender safety, arguing it can increase risks in public restrooms rather than promoting security.
While The Hill explains the law affects a wide range of facilities, stressing separation based on “biological sex” in schools and universities.
But Commondreams.org points out the bill has a huge ground base of support. Despite the protests, the legislation sailed through, and broadened its reach even to private schools. And many other states are doing the same. It’s plain popular.
Finally, Fox News adds that the bill makes official the restriction on using restrooms designated for the opposite sex.
