Newsom’s bag ban

California Gov. Gavin Newsom signed a new law banning all plastic shopping bags in stores. The new measure builds on previous legislation that allowed thicker, reusable plastic bags -- AP says the move hopes to cut down on plastic waste.

The NYT says Newsom's first plastic ban was a flop: The thicker plastic bags allowed under the previous ban actually increased plastic trash.

A letter to WSJ wasn't optimistic about this go-around, either: The ban misses the point -- what about all the plastic in the packaging of our groceries?

Still, SacBee said the measure had its supporters: Fans say it'll cut back on pollution -- a win for the environment and residents' health.

Clark wins AP Rookie of the Year

Caitlin Clark was unanimously selected as AP's Rookie of the Year. CNN says her impressive debut season led to the win: She broke records for assists and three-pointers.

Connor McCaffrey, Caitlin's boyfriend, said the award was a no-brainer. He reposted AP's award with the caption: “Duh”.

Outkick agreed with the sentiment: Clark’s award was inevitable. A player with record-shattering stats who draws in millions of fans is hard to beat.

By the way, Athlon Sports says Angel Reese is unbothered by not winning: She made a social media post expressing “gratitude” for her life.
