  • 4 quick hits of news from the last 24 hours

France’s leftist victory

France's Leftist Coalition won the most seats in the country's elections, rejecting a far-right surge. Time says the win resulted in a hung parliament, creating political turmoil that could destabilize the economy.

A WSJ Op thinks the leftist win was a loss for Macron: His alliance with the left in France complicates his presidency and economic agenda.

Bloomberg agrees somewhat: On one hand, Macron's early election rebuffed Le Pen's National Rally. But on the other hand, France's far-left victory could spell trouble for Macron's pro-business reforms.

For what it's worth, the left-wing coalition leader Jean-Luc Mélenchon was optimistic: He says the left is “ready to govern” France.

Still, The Guardian was pessimistic: France’s left victory may lead to political deadlock.
