Milton’s toxic threat

Florida's fertilizer industry produces a large amount of radioactive phosphogypsum waste. And the Hindustan Time says that waste could be dangerous during Hurricane Milton: The storm threatens to scatter over 1 billion tons of radioactive waste stored in stacks across Florida.

Le Monde highlights the vulnerability of these “stack” sites: They're close to waterways, and risking causing widespread contamination during storms.

AP News says past hurricanes caused leaks -- in 2004 when millions of gallons of acidic wastewater spilled into waterways.

Still, ABC notes that both the EPA and Florida's Department of Environmental Protection are already working to secure sites -- though risks of leaks remain.

Nadal’s retirement

Sports Inquirer: The tennis legend Rafael Nadal is finally retiring at 38 -- his last tournament will be the Davis Cup in November, and said the decision was due to persistent injuries.

Abc7chicago.com: He's said the past few years have been difficult for him -- even so, he's content to hang up his racket. He's had an amazing career!

iNews: Amazing is selling it short, he's one of the GOATS! His 23-year career with 22 Grand Slam titles makes him a tennis legend.

Time Mag: He'll be remembered forever as the “King of Clay” -- he was truly unstoppable on that surface. We will all remember his dominance and grit over the years. Thanks for everything, Rafa.
