๐บ๐ธ The Jan 6 riots, three years later
Three years later, America's views on the acts of January 6 are shifting. What's behind the shift, and what does it mean for 2024?
๐บ๐ธ On January 6, 2021, a mob stormed the US Capitol in an attempt to overturn the 2020 election results. Three years later, a YouGov poll shows that American disapproval of the event is waning.
๐บ๐ธ The Washington Examiner concurs: Sympathy for Jan 6 rioters is on the rise. It reflects America's deepening divide, with election integrity and democracy concerns high among voters.
๐บ๐ธ But Newsweek argues that the evolving Jan 6 sentiment reflects a growing distrust in America's public institutions. Both Trump & Biden supporters harbor suspicions about the role of law enforcement in the riot.
๐บ๐ธ MSNBC, on the other hand, points a finger at Republicans: The party's downplaying of Jan 6 fuels acceptance of an insurrection, and threatens democracy.
๐บ๐ธ Either way, Common Dreams says Jan 6 exposed the need for stronger safeguards on democracy: We have to get it right in 2024.
๐ซ Public displays of affection: cute or cringeworthy?
Some think that public displays of affection (aka PDA) are a sweet gesture, but other people thing theyโre cringeworthy and show over-possessiveness.
๐ซ Vogue is against PDA in most cases. Itโs less about love and more about possession. Even something as small as public hand-holding is clammy, uncomfortable, and a โhuman leashโ that signals ownership.
๐ซ But a Redditor on r/UnpopularOpinion insists that PDA is fine: It's not indecency, it's just folks being in love. Just keep it PG โ for example, no over-the-top makeouts.
๐ซ But another Redditor on r/ChangeMyView argues that PDA is trashy and creates discomfort for onlookers, who are forced to feel like an extra in someone else's romance movie scene.
๐ซ But Refinery29 disagrees: PDA is fine as long as it feels right to the folks involved โ everyone else should mind their own business!
๐ซ GQ says there's a fine line: It's about context and keeping it low-key and appropriate โ like hand-holding or quick pecks.
