🤝 Israel-Hamas ceasefire: What comes next?
Some say the Israel-Hamas deal brings hope and pause in the Gaza conflict, but critics argue it may bolster Hamas.
🤝 NYT: In a Qatar-brokered deal, Israel and Hamas agreed to a 4-day ceasefire. Hamas will release 50 hostages, and Israel will release 150 Palestinian prisoners.
🤝 WaPo thinks this is a huge development. Israel says the deal is “more for more” — meaning that more hostages returned equates to a longer pause. It could lead to serious deescalation.
🤝 But the WSJ is a bit more pessimistic: The deal is risky. Hamas could use the ceasefire to recover and prepare for more attacks on Israeli troops.
🤝 The SCMP objected for a different reason: The deal doesn't fix the underlying issue. We need a two-state solution to ensure lasting peace.
🤝 CNN’s take: The hostage deal is encouraging, but the “deep moral dilemmas” facing Israel are far from over.
💲 Who should pay on a first date?
It’s been debated for decades who should pay on a first date — what do Americans think today?
💲 A poll from EliteSingles found that 63% of American men think men should pay on the first date, compared to 46% of women.
💲 CNBC covers dating coach Amy Nobile’s advice: For straight couples, the man should pay. It's chivalrous, and everybody likes it.
💲 Forbes disagrees: That’s actually "benevolent sexism" — it promotes the idea that women need to be "taken care of", plus it's also just unfair. People should split the bill!
💲 A thread on r/AskReddit thinks it's simple: Whoever asked the other person out pays for the date. Easy!
💲 Blogger Nathan Chen wonders if the straights are OK. Seriously, just drop the gendered expectations and have a good time!
