Inauguration for Trump & Vance
Yahoo says the inauguration of Donald Trump and JD Vance marks a continuation of Trump's combative public persona. Official portraits reflect Trump's new image and JD Vance's role as the first millennial vice president.
CBS News says tradition remains strong as Trump is set to be inaugurated indoors due to freezing temperatures, with Chief Justice Roberts swearing him in for a second time.
But 6abc says it's not just tradition backing Trump: A record-breaking $250 million in corporate donations from tech giants and cryptocurrency shows significant financial support.
BBC says the new official portraits for Trump and Vance signify a strategic image shift, emphasizing Trump's defiance compared to his 2017 smiling image.
But NYT highlights strained relationships: Trump's fallout with Mike Pence after the 2020 election remains an issue, as Pence wasn't chosen as running mate, but plans to attend the inauguration.
New fire risk in LA
Southern California's on edge: Yahoo warns Santa Ana winds could unleash uncontrollable fires across mountain regions.
LA Times urges proactivity as looming “red flag” conditions make local residents nervous.
CNN points out return of Santa Ana winds could escalate fires Los Angeles firefighters have been battling.
And Fox Weather highlights active fuel suppression efforts as risks increase in places like Pacific Palisades.
With strong winds persisting, CBS News reports at least 25 fatalities from ongoing Los Angeles area fires.
Axel Rudakubana pleads guilty
In a shocking case, British teen Axel Rudakubana pled guilty to three murders, ten attempted murders, and more during a Taylor Swift-themed class.
UK News says this plea shocked the legal system, as it prevents a lengthy trial by confirming his role in what was described as savagery.
BBC adds that by admitting his guilty plea, Rudakubana spared families the trauma of reliving the attack, showing a planned and violent intent with “sickening” interest.
AP News noted Rudakubana's guilty plea included charges related to possessing ricin and al-Qaida materials, revealing potential violent motivations despite unclear motives.
The Guardian reports the teenage assailant aims to receive a life sentence after admitting to possessing terrorist materials and causing chaos at a community event.
