In the news: What does Hamas want?

Hamas launched an attack on Israel on October 7, leading to a rapidly escalating war. What is the group's ultimate goal?

❓ Vox says Hamas, the group behind the October 7 attack that sparked war with Israel, ultimately wants a Palestinian state. Its attack was about Palestinian independence.

❓ But The National Review thinks Hamas's goal isn't independence — it's to eradicate Israel. There can be no peace while Hamas exists.

❓ The Atlantic believes the attack was actually about what Iran wants — which is a bloody conflict between the two, to undermine the United States. Iran may be using Hamas as a pawn in its own game.

❓ But a different piece in The Atlantic disagreed: Hamas and Iran didn’t think its attack would be as successful as it was, and lead to such a huge response from Israel. We’re in uncharted territory here.

❓ Either way, CDR Salamander (a Substacker) says it's still unclear what Hamas's endgame is. We'll all have to wait and see.

🏋️‍♀️ Cultural trend: Filming at the gym

Should people film themselves working out at the gym?

🏋️‍♀️ A Redditor on r/UnpopularOpinion said filming yourself in the gym is obnoxious and disrespectful of fellow gym-goers. It should be banned.

🏋️‍♀️ My Last Rep thinks filming is important for making gains at the gym, though. How can you work on your form unless you can see yourself doing an exercise?

🏋️‍♀️ But blogger Pete Williams says nobody is doing it for that reason — it's all influencers these days. Some people are even accosting other gym-goers for content — it has to stop!

🏋️‍♀️ Joey Swoll supports filming at the gym, but says it’s important to follow the unwritten rules: Stop if anybody asks you to, don't do it on crowded days, and keep your camera setup minimalistic.
