🌭 Costco’s food court crackdown

Good morning. This is Shades of the Day, the daily newsletter that summarizes and organizes the different shades of perspective in news and culture so that you can see the big picture quickly.

Here at Shades we believe that seeing multiple points of view is the best way to stay informed. The easiest (and most fun!) way to do that is with the Shades mobile app, where this newsletter’s content is pulled from.

It’s Friday, March 29 — here’s what you’ll find in today’s newsletter:

  • RFK Jr.’s pick for VP

  • Costco’s food court crackdown

  • 4 quick hits of news from the last 24 hours

🇺🇸 RFK Jr.’s pick for VP

RFK selected Nicole Shanahan as his VP. Is it a game-changer for his campaign, or a sign of its insincerity?

🇺🇸 RFK Jr. picked lawyer and philanthropist Nicole Shanahan to be his VP. The Hill thinks the pick boosts the appeal of his independent campaign.

🇺🇸 But the Washington Examiner disagreed: RFK Jr.'s VP pick confirms his far-left stance. Conservatives should steer clear.

🇺🇸 Hot Air also questioned the move: RFK Jr.'s VP pick is rich from Big Tech money — that undermines his campaign's anti-vaxx stance.

🇺🇸 USA Today trashed the move for a different reason: RFK Jr.'s VP pick was a vanity choice.

🇺🇸 By the way, Newsweek interviewed Shanahan on her VP bid. She said she's motivated by feelings of disillusionment with Democrats.

🌭 Costco’s food court crackdown

Costco is tightening its rules for non-members eating at the food court.

🌭 Fox Business says Costco is tightening its rules: No more cheap eats for non-members! The retail giant will require a membership card to eat at its food courts.

🌭 The Street said the move was met with applause: Costco members are sick of non-members filling up the food court.

🌭 Daily Dot reported mixed reactions, though: Some found the rule a little unfair. Sam's Club doesn't require a membership for its food court, after all.

🌭 And @Cobra_trooper on X thinks Costco should sell a separate membership: People should be able to pay for access to the food court alone.

🌭 On the other hand, maybe the enforcement is overdue. Parade notes the member-only rule was put in place in 2020, it just wasn't widely followed.
