  • Bridgerton’s portrayal of beauty

  • 4 quick hits of news from the last 24 hours

Biden’s ceasefire deal

France 24: Biden announced a “comprehensive” ceasefire proposal by Israel. He says Hamas should accept to halt violence.

The Guardian breaks it down: It's a three-part plan. Part one is a 6-week ceasefire, a partial hostage swap, and an Israeli withdrawal from populated areas. Part two is a negotiation period aimed at a permanent ceasefire. Part three is a rebuilding effort in Gaza.

Reuters says Hamas seems warm to it -- they responded “positively” to the three-part plan.

But a Redditor on r/TrueUnpopularOpinion thinks no ceasefire should happen -- Hamas is losing, and Israel should keep fighting until they surrender.

Al Jazeera: But Biden is going to try -- he knows his re-election may hinge on Gaza, and peace is his best shot at beating Trump.

Bridgerton & bodies

The Spectator: The 3rd season of “Bridgerton” has gone too far in its quest for diversity. The lead, Nicola Coughlan, is “not hot” -- “she's fat”, and that ruins the fantasy.

But the NYT liked Bridgerton's curvy romance: Beauty is in the eye of the beholder -- plenty of people find bigger bodies attractive.

The Guardian was also into Nicola as lead: Her role defies body norms and sparks necessary debate.

But Stylist believes the ongoing talk about Nicola's body, good or bad, is plain weird. And it proves that body shaming persists despite calls for change.
