It’s Saturday, June 15 — here’s what you’ll find in today’s newsletter:

  • DOJ's pass on prosecuting AG Garland stirs debate

  • Charli XCX's “BRAT” is dividing the internet

  • 4 quick hits of news from the last 24 hours

The DOJ won't prosecute

The Department of Justice won't prosecute AG Merrick Garland -- the news comes after the House voted to hold him in contempt for not sharing Biden's interview audio. The DOJ says no crime was committed.

A MSNBC Op says the GOP's contempt vote was a “cheap shot” anyway: It was a strategic move to undermine accountability tools.

But The WSJ Ed Board says Garland's contempt vote was deserved: His refusal to release Biden audio justifies the motion.

The National Pulse's agreed: The DOJ's refusal to prosecute AG Garland shows bias and double standards.

Still, Garland argues the unprecedented, dangerous attacks on the DOJ must end -- read his WaPo Op here.

“BRAT”

WSJ says Charli XCX's latest album, “Brat”, embraces the digital era with no apologies: The work showcases her unique space in pop music.

Pitchfork was also a fan: “BRAT” is indeed a masterful mix, transcending pop norms with cool vulnerability.

But the Independent says it's not perfect: The album is a raw blend of anarchic pop, but “you never quite know Charli despite her honesty”.

Still, Rolling Stone calls “Brat” a dance floor triumph: Charli XCX blends existential musings with peak party vibes.

Lastly, The Guardian gives “Brat” a perfect 5/5 -- for its deeply human take on fame and insecurity.
