6 quick hits of news from the last 24 hours
Company president stabbed
Erik Denslow, the president of Anderson Express Inc., was stabbed during a staff meeting in Muskegon, Michigan by an employee named Nathan Mahoney. Police suggest it might be a copycat crime -- inspired by the UnitedHealthcare CEO shooting.
But AOL says the details are still unclear: The suspect, Nathan Mahoney, has been arrested. But the police still haven't identified a motive.
The Kansas City Star offers more specifics: The knife attack happened around 9:20 a.m. during a company meeting, with video evidence now part of the police investigation.
By the way, NY Post says Eric Denslow, the stabbed boss, will supposedly recover. He's still in critical condition, though.
Apple’s AI mistake
NDTV shares that Apple's AI mistakenly generated a misleading headline: It generated a BBC headline that reported that Luigi Mangione, accused of murdering a CEO, committed suicide -- which was factually incorrect.
The misstep sparked outrage. The BBC called for Apple to stop using the AI feature after the false headline. The misstep comes just a week after Apple launched Apple Intelligence.
For what it's worth, this Redditor admits the feature is a bit buggy: The AI summaries only work about half the time.
For what it's worth, BGR says Reporters Without Borders is also condemning Apple's AI for spreading misinformation. Apple hasn't responded to the concerns just yet, though.
Ottimo’s new cancer drug
Ottimo plans to fight cancer head-on with their novel drug: A dual-targeting approach that interacts with PD-1 and VEGF pathways to block tumor growth and avoid immune evasion.
Pharma Phorum says Ottimo's knack for innovation is backed by serious cash -- $140 million in Series A funds, hinting at a promising challenge to Keytruda in cancer therapy.
Yahoo Finance says it’s not just about the money, though: Ottimo is merging ingenuity and precision targeting with their groundbreaking PD-1+VEGF drug, in hopes of outperforming existing treatments in the immunotherapy space.
For what it's worth, ENDPTS was optimistic: With David Epstein at the helm, Ottimo is racing ahead in the cancer treatment field, raising $140 million to pioneer this dual-target ambition.
