Elon’s $1M/day pledge

Elon Musk has pledged to give away $1 million daily until the November 5 election, for lucky Pennsylvanians who agree to support the 1st and 2nd Amendments. PA Governor Josh Shapiro says it’s just a way to skirt election laws, which say you can’t buy votes.

Daily Mail: Musk's giveaway is called a “dark money” ploy for political sway. It’s really no different than bribery.

Mediaite: Definitely could be a legal issue. And yeah Governor Shapiro officially called for an investigation into Musk's big-bucks petition.

Forbes: Legal experts say the problem is that the giveaway requires voter registration beforehand. That's what makes it illegal -- you can't pay anyone to register to vote. But if he were just paying people to sign the petition, it wouldn't be a problem.

NYT discusses the counterargument: You can offer benefits to help people vote -- that's legal, and happens all the time. Examples: paid leave to vote, rides to polls, etc.

Airline bomb hoaxes

Indian airlines have been impacted by a series of fake bomb threats, receiving around 34 “threats” in a single week. Indian Express says the hoaxes are causing major disruptions and lots of passenger inconvenience.

More on that from BBC: These hoaxes led to flights getting diverted and delayed -- on a recent Air India flight, a threat forced an emergency landing.

Plus, Airways Mag says these threats come during the busy festive travel season. They're putting a real damper on travel plans and threaten the country's economic growth.

By the way, Business Today says each fake threat prompts serious responses: Authority meetings, alert protocols, and intense security checks inconvenience everyone involved.
