🍎 4-day school week?

Happy Monday! It’s September 11 — people are talking about Jimmy Fallon’s toxic work environment, the 4-day school week, and more.

As always, we’ve summarized and organized the different shades of perspective, so you can see the big picture quickly.

🎥 In the news: Jimmy Fallon’s toxic culture?

Rolling Stone released a report detailing a toxic work environment at the Tonight Show. Anonymous workers said Fallon is prone to tantrums and erratic behavior.

🎥 Hollywood Reporter: Jimmy apologized, saying he was extremely embarrassed by the report, and didn’t intend to create a hostile environment.

🎥 Newsweek thought it was a weak apology. He clearly didn't mean it, and is only “sorry” because he got called out.

🎥 But Fox News's Greg Gutfeld said the allegations are false. Jimmy is a great guy, and he's clearly being targeted. Stop apologizing to people who hate you!

🎥 Hector Navarro on Twitter: This problem seems to exist for many talk show hosts. Staffers had similar complaints about Ellen DeGeneres and James Corden.

🍎 Cultural trend: 4-day school week?

More schools are switching to a 4-day week. It might reduce teacher burnout and help parents, but it might harm academic performance.

🍎 Education Week says the 4-day school week creates calmer schools. With equal instruction time (longer days), student aptitude is unchanged.

🍎 NBC News thinks it's a tempting idea, but what about students who need meals every day, or special-ed students? They can't take days off!

🍎 The Journalist’s Resource says the 4-day week saves money and prevents teacher burnout — that's crucial, because we have a huge teacher shortage.

🍎 But EdSource notes that it’s not feasible for many school districts — many would lose crucial funding. Also, English scores are lower for 4-day week schools.

🍎 The Hill likes the optional 4-day week. A school in Pennsylvania offers educational programs on the day off — it means teachers can make extra money, and students can learn more. That’s a good balance.
